The Jews lost their right to live where they chose and were forced to move to Ghettos, small locked off areas in their cities with over 200,000 Jews per square mile. In the process, the Germans raided their homes and took their valuables. On the well known day of Kristallnacht (the Night of Broken Glass) the Germans raided homes, destroyed businesses, killed Jews, and much more. Their heirlooms and any other possessions of worth were taken.
“You couldn’t live on it, and you couldn’t starve on it!” –Berek Latarus (food rations)
“...and they just died on the sidewalks.” –Berek Latarus (Jews left to die) Jews had no right to better living condition; they had to live with illness and hunger that spread throughout the ghettos. The ghettos were one of the first steps towards Hitler's plan of extermination. The Jews were systematically killed, taken to camps, or abandoned to die.
