In the time of WWII, Adolf Hitler, blamed the Jews for losing WWI. Hitler thought that the Jews were Communists, and that they deliberately caused Germany to lose WWI through dissent. In addition, he believed that they also intentionally caused the Great Depression, and were seeking world domination which meant they were in direct competition with the Germans.
“Really average people were not afraid. They didn’t know what was going on in the world. They were occupied with work, with children.” -Berek Latarus (Holocaust Survivor)

To take out his competition and gain revenge, he set a mass genocide in action to wipe all Jews off the Earth. Jewish citizens did not know what was happening as one of the biggest, most important events in history began to take place.
